Assets 101
Developmental assets are the positive values, relationships, skills and experiences that help children and teens thrive. Young people with high asset levels are most likely to make healthy choices, while those with lower asset levels are more likely to get involved with negative or risky behaviors like violence, trouble in school, drug and alcohol use and more.
The developmental asset framework identifies 41 essential elements for wellness and thriving in young people. Research shows a significant correlation between higher number of assets and positive health indicators, and between lower numbers of developmental assets and increased risk-taking behaviors. Assets 101 will introduce you to the developmental asset framework and help you understand strategies to intentionally reposition your interactions with youth.
