SHOW DETAILS: Written and directed by David B. Atkinson, "The Speakeasy Murders" draws directly from the history of the Prohibition Era and brings to life some of the very colorful characters from that era including George "Dutch" Remus known as "the King of the Bootleggers", who became a multi millionaire selling bootleg liquor in the 1920's. We are at one of his many speakeasies and Dutch has just gotten out of prison for tax evasion as the show begins. Everyone in the audience is there to celebrate his homecoming. Unfortunately, one of the only federal agents who is not on Dutch's payroll has been murdered and it is up to all in the audience to help solve this murder. Some of the suspects include Dutch's wife, Imogene Remus, who has started a romance while Dutch was away with another lawman who is on the payroll by the name of Franklin L. Dodge. Dodge very much enjoys sampling the latest batch of hooch while running the investigation. The co-owner and operator of the speakeasy where the show takes place is Texas Guinan who welcomes everyone with a "Hello suckers! What's the password?" Dutch has arrived at the party with his whacky and ditzy flapper girlfriend Poopsie McGee (the only fictitious character in the show).
As a delicious selection of desserts are served, the characters wander around among the tables visiting with the audience dropping clues and blaming one another between scenes as the plot thickens. Throughout the show another murder attempt takes place but is thwarted by some quick gun play by Texas. The characters perform songs from the era as a special treat for Dutch who also sings a tune. Dutch Remus will also be conducting private tours of the secret cave where his famous hooch is made during the show. At the end of the evening the audience is asked to work together to guess who committed each of the three murders and why. Prizes are awarded to the best and worst detective teams.
