Kareem M. Lucas brings his hilarious and heartbreaking one man show of poetry to Teatro Circulo for 5 performances only! RATED BLACK features Kareem onstage wielding his penetrating wit and humorous insight to grapple with the complicated topics of love, relationships, race, identity, and home. Nothing is off limits in this sophisticated yet crass excavation of a modern American life.

LA WILLIAMS (Director) is a Harlem-based theatre director and developer of new work. LA has developed and directed new work at The Wild Project, The Public Theater Emerging Writer's Group, Black Playwright's Group Dramatists Guild of America, The Cell Theatre, The Fire This Time Festival, Harlem9 "48 Hours in Harlem", National Black Theatre, and The Classical Theatre of Harlem. Recent Assistant Director credits include: The Insurgents (Labyrinth Theatre Company), brownsville song (b-side for tray) (LCT3/Lincoln Center Theater, Romeo & Juliet (Classical Theatre of Harlem), The Urban Retreat (Public Theater/NYSF), APPROPRIATE (Signature Theatre), War is F**king Awesome (Sundance Theatre Lab), and A Streetcar Named Desire (Broadway). LA was the Kenny Leon Directing fellow in 2009. LA is a member of the Lincoln Center Directors Lab and is an Associate Member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation. Training: AM in Theatre Education from Emerson College; AB in Theatre Arts from Alabama State University.
AVI AMON (Music) writes music and creates soundscapes for theatre, film, and dance. With collaborator and pal, Julia Gytri, Avi wrote The White City(O'Neill 2014 National Music Theatre Conference, Discovery New Musical Theater Festival at Ball State University, finalist for the 2015 Richard Rogers Award) and Step on a Crack (featured in Prospect Theater's Seventh Annual Music Theater Lab). The team is working on a new show, Salonika, which is a fusion of obscure fairy tales paralleled with the extermination of the Ladino-speaking Jewish community of Salonika, Greece. In addition to being an active performer in New York, Avi is a volunteer composer for the 52nd Street Project, a member of the Institute for Collaborative Theater Making with Target Margin Theater, and an alumnus of the Graduate Musical Theater Writing Program at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. He lives in Brooklyn where he tends to his immense plant collection and builds furniture for friends.www.aviamon.com
DEREK VAN HEEL (Lighting Design) designs have been seen at The Alvin Ailey Citibank Theatre, Jazz at Lincoln Center's Rose Hall, The Metropolitan Museum, Off-Broadway, and the kinds of basements, bars, clubs, and teeny-tiny rooms where New York theatre is often forged. Recent designs include, The International(Origin Theatre Co.), La Cenerentola (Shreveport Opera) The End and the Beginning (The Civilians), The Miracle Worker (Montana Repertory Theatre; National Tour), Close Up (LeeSaar The Company), and Butoh Medea (Ren Gyo Soh), which has performed in New York, Warsaw, and at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in Scotland. LASHAWN KEYSER (Stage Manager) currently works at CAP21 Musical Theatre Conservatory and when she can, she freelances as an Equity SM in NYC. Prior to this she served as the Production Stage Manager for the Kitchen Theatre Company for over 3 seasons in Ithaca, NY. NYC credits: Every Day A Visitor (The Clurman), Pains of Youth (Access Theater), Mandela! The Musical (St. Clements), On the Town (CAP21). She was the Production Manager for the Apprentice Company of the Powerhouse Theatre Company in Summer 2014 and she has also stage managed dance competitions and weddings!
