Founder's Day Talk, Private to Public: A Family History of Collecting & Altruism
Private to Public: A Family History of the Collecting and Philanthropy of Collis, Arabella, Archer, and Henry Huntington" This is a FREE public lecture. Dr. Shelley M. Bennett, senior research associate at The Huntington, discusses how the Huntingtons turned their passion for collecting art and rare books to creating institutions that made their collections accessible to the public. Funding their libraries and art galleries with private nonprofit trusts and foundations was a new idea significantly different from the European system which relied strongly on government support.
