Music in the Gallery - Gerdan of Ukraine
Please join us for a delightfully diverse and memorable concert, followed by a wine & cheese reception in Ulrika Leander's beautiful tapestry studio in Royal Oak/Bellevue, near the Ferry.
Featured will be Gerdan of Ukraine. Andrei Pidkivka and Solomia Gorokhivska will take you on an unforgettable journey through their native Ukraine and other neighboring countries, exploring the rich classical and folk music traditions of Eastern Europe. Andrei's exotic flutes, from the small ocarina to the large fujara, are accompanied by Solomia's violin, vocals and dance.
The ensemble is named after Gerdan, a multi-colored, intricately woven beaded necklace from the Carpathian Mountains in Ukraine. Like this dazzling and exquisite necklace, the musicians bring alive rich arrangements that reflect their passion for tradition Eastern European folk melodies and rhythms.
