Binge Eating Disorder in Lesbian, Bisexual and Queer Women: Exploring the Relationship between Food, Mood and Internalized Homophobia & Biphobia
Lesbian, bisexual and queer women face different health concerns than their heterosexual counterparts. Even across known risk factors like socio-economic status, race, depression, and trauma, the prevalence of obesity in higher in these women. The psychological reasons for this are not well understood. This talk will explore the literature regarding factors such as body image, internalized homophobia & biphobia, trauma and how they may affect eating patterns in lesbian, bisexual and queer women. Discussion about how to help lesbian, bisexual and queer women clients develop healthier relationships with their inner selves, bodies, and food will be discussed.
