Course Type: Lecture 1 hour Course Description: Educate trainers on recommended appropriate portions of foods from various food groups for health. Deficiencies of fat, protein and carbohydrates will be addressed within the mixed diets discussed. These deficiencies are important to understand as many clients may be on low fat, low carb or low protein diets. Healthy drinks will be recommended and less desirable drinks reviewed. The pros and cons of the popular Paleo diet will be discussed. Portion sizes will be practiced by using food groups, rather than individual foods, for mixed, vegetarian and vegan diets. Course Objectives: After completing this course, a trainer will be able to: 1.Understand the cause and effect of protein, fat and carbohydrate deficiencies in a diet 2.Understand serving sizes for mixed, vegetarian and vegan diets. 3.Describe what are considered to be healthy proteins for vegans. 4.Describe what are considered to be healthy and unhealthy drinks. 5.Describe the pros and cons of the Paleo Diet
Course Summary: This 1 hour course will present advice for personal trainers so that they may assist their clients in choosing a variety and balance of healthy foods. Basic food types will be briefly addressed. Portion sizes and meal planning for those choosing mixed, vegetarian and vegan diets will be covered. This lecture qualifies for CEUs.
