"What is the scandal?"
Award-winning film, theater, and television actress, Eliana López, returns to the stage to introduce her one-woman show What is the Scandal? In her own voice, Lopez explores the human side of the political scandal and the subsequent trial in 2012 against her husband, San Francisco Sheriff, Ross Mirakarimi, as a study in politics and media, gender and cultural differences. Eliana will play a dozen characters that will take us through the adventures of her youth in her native Venezuela, the culture shock she experienced in moving to the United States, her love story with an elected official with whom she marries and starts a family, and the unexpected twists in their lives as a result of a family quarrel.

What is the Scandal? is an original piece created by Alfonso López (brother and sister team) and produced by Ivette Carolina Agudelo, celebrating Latino values and demonstrating the power of a women daring enough to speak her truth.

While What is the Scandal? shines a light on the injustices and political and social biases against immigrants in the US, more importantly for Ms. Lopez, it is a reflection of self-transformationa personal journey of human growth as a result of a very public and at the same time,  very private experience.  In 2014 Lopez decided to tell "my story" and do something that would allow her to heal and forgive. The medium that she knows best is theater, so in collaboration with her brother, Alfonso Lopez, they wrote the script for this play. Their goal is to show the community the human side of the "scandal."

Eliana López, born in Caracas, Venezuela, made her debut at sixteen as the main actress in the prestigious National Theatre Company of Venezuela. She has since worked in Mexico and Venezuela, and her most recent work includes theatrical performances of "The Vagina Monologues" in Spanish.
