September Morning
A very special community event centered around an exhibit by local photographer Alessandra Nicole, opening Friday, September 9th at Film Brothers Co-Op gallery, 205 North Market Street.
Entitled "September Morning," Alessandra''s exhibit -- 30 photographs she took in Lower Manhattan ten years ago on the morning of September 11, 2001 -- will be an interactive show that will encourage visitors to type their memories and reflection...s, which will later be made into a commemorative book. Though a selection of the images went on a national tour as part of a larger exhibit for 13 months and were subsequently published in a book in 2003, most of these photographs are making their public debut! In addition to the gallery show, there will be two staged readings of Richard Gaw's award winning play "Ethan's People," about the aftermath of the tragedy; and performances by local musician E. Shawn Qaissaunee.
The photography and the opportunity to add your reflections and memories to what will be curated into a limited edition archival book will be available throughout September. We encourage you to visit the gallery and add your perspective to the exhibit as what happened on 9/11/01 is a part of both our collective and personal histories and should be heard, honored, and set to rest.
Key dates to note:
Friday, September 9th: Opening Reception in conjunction with Wilmington's monthly Art Loop (free to the public)
Saturday, September 10th: Evening reading of Ethan's People (ticket required)
Sunday, September 11th: Matinee reading of Ethan's People (ticket required)
Friday, September 30th: Special Closing Reception, presentation of archival commemorative book to the City of Wilmington
