SSPGC Educational Lunch Meeting: Gift Acceptance Policies
Gift Acceptance Policies are key in knowing how to accept planned gifts within a nonprofit, BUT they are also instructive for the Estate Planner when helping craft the wishes of a donor. This session delves into the nitty gritty of what needs to be included in an organization's policies, answering many questions before they become issues which is a big help to both the organization and its staff as well as those wishing to make gifts to charity. When asked, how does the charity handle gifts of real estate as an outright gift, deferred gift, in a trust, or even the gift of a future partial interest, what do you say and where do you find the answer? How are stock gifts handled and by what process and tracking mechanisms? Can your donor give, and just as important can the charity accept a life estate gift? The answers to questions like these and many more are spelled out in the Gift Acceptance Policy. We'll cover many more questions, some of which will be predictable, some may be a surprise during our 4th Smoke+Cedar lunch on July 15,, 2015 at the Elks/Allenmore Golf Club. Our presenters bring expertise from two respected area institutions of higher education as well as in-depth knowledge of their own organization's policies. One has just recently rewritten their policies and will tell you how that progressed. Please bring your questions and comments. PRESENTERS: Doug Page, Executive Director of Planned Giving, Pacific Lutheran University Robin Echtle, Assistant Director Major and Planned Gifts, Evergreen State College
