A Talk and Demonstration with Topiary Artist Pearl Fryar
Beautiful, whimsical, educational, and inspiring: these are just some of the many words used to describe the magical topiaries created by Pearl Fryar. For over 25 years, Fryar has transformed live plant materials into original, elegantly abstract forms that often fall outside the normal bounds of horticulture. Featured in dozens of magazines, newspapers, and national television programs, Fryar's work is recognized by art and botanical enthusiasts from around the world. This is a special opportunity to hear Fryar discuss his work and demonstrate how his designs take shape.
Two demonstrations are scheduled at The Mount on July 17: one at 11:00 am and one at 1:30 pm. Tickets are $20 each for the demonstration and includes admission to The Mount. All proceeds from the demonstration will benefit the Lift Ev'ry Voice Festival.
Continuous presentations of "A Man Named Pearl," a 78-minute documentary about Pearl Fryar, will be held in the stable from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.
From 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm that evening, there will be a reception at The Mount featuring an auction of Pearl Fryar's topiary art as well as fine wines. The cost is $55 per person. The reception includes champagne and delicious fare prepared by Mezze Catering. The auction will showcase these sought-after items:
Four topiary plants specially created by Pearl Fryar
A bottle of Château d'Yquem wine
Two pieces of photographic art by Jean Germain
An overnight trip to the Brandt House, a bed & breakfast in Greenfield, Massachusetts
All proceeds from the event will go to the Lift Ev'ry Voice Festival and to the creation of scholarships to be awarded to Berkshire County youth.
