Jazz Cabaret: Maria Jimena
María Jimena has been delighting audiences across Mexico with her soulful, cabaret performances of classics like La Vie en Rose, as well as traditional and contemporary songs from Mexico, Spain and the Caribbean. She is truly a "musical shaman" who opens portals between herself and her audiences. María says that, "connecting with my audience on an intuitive level is the most important thing because the experience is created between the audience and the performer."
Jimena's vocal style was nurtured in the "bel canto" tradition of classical music. As a child in Costa Rica, she participated in the children's program of Costa Rica's National Symphony and later graduated from the music school of Lasalle Univeristy in Cuernavaca. "The coolest part of this," she says, "is seeing how the audience connects emotionally to me and to each other, so that by the end of the show everyone is relaxed and in a good space." Join us Saturday, June 27th 7:30 pm for a live concert with María Jimena on guitar and ukulele accompanied by the gypsy jazz guitarist, Alex Camarena. Together, the passionate duo will play Manouche Jazz, Hot Club Jazz or Gypsy Jazz along with some selections showcasing María's classical vocal style. 150 pesos.
