Aidan's Gift
Something's bothering Father Aidan. Ten years ago, he suddenly stopped serving as Novice Master and began drinking and wandering in the "slough of despair." The new Abbot, impatient with Aidan's loss of purpose and lack of engagement, assigns him a new project in the person of John Mark, a novice with secrets and torments of his own. "Aidan's Gift" follows the three men as they spar with one other, reluctantly revealing their pasts, and their hopes for redemption in the face of their pride and the unforgivable.
The production of Aidan's Gift, by award-winning playwright Elizabeth Orndorff, is a world premiere -- the winner of Silverthorne's New Play Competition, chosen from over 425 entries from around the world.
Veteran actors Steve Henderson*(Father Aidan) and Dan Popovich*(Abbot) star alongside newcomer Julian Findlay (Brother John Mark under the direction of Carmela Lanza-Weil.
Playwright Elizabeth Orndorff will be present for a post-show talkback on Wednesday, July 15, followed by a reception.
Aidan's Gift runs July 15-19: Wednesday and Thursday at 7:30 pm; Friday and Saturday at 8:00 pm and Sunday at 2 pm. The intimate space of the Sloan Theater at Greenfield Community College is perfect for this very personal drama of a crisis of faith and of reconciliation through giving.
