May Southern Section AZ APA Brown bag Program - The Built Environment and Health
Alex Gutierrez is a program coordinator with the Pima County Health Department and has been working on policy initiatives relating to the built environment and its impact on health for the last three years. His work includes developing complete streets policies for regional partners, conducting health impact assessments, and working to ensure community members have access to green space for physical activity.
This work has resulted in partnership with, among others, regional planning authorities, transportation departments, housing authorities, and the University of Arizona. He is excited to share his experiences. He will highlight successful projects, one of which includes working with the Pima County Community Development Department on the inclusion of Healthy Community components as part of Affordable Housing criteria. He also has worked with Pima Association of Governments on including Complete Streets language into future resolutions. He will also discuss future opportunities of ways we can incorporate healthier communities in the built environment.
