Groundbreaking at Bartram's Garden
You are invited to a groundbreaking ceremony that will kick off a major house and garden restoration at Bartram's Garden and take our commitment to sustainability into the 21st century.
This $2.2 million project will recreate the nineteenth century specimen garden of John Bartram's granddaughter, Ann Bartram Carr. Featuring beautiful flowering plants such as roses, dahlias, and peony trees, the Carr Garden was the first time the garden was opened for public display and as a destination on the Schuylkill River.
John Bartram's 1731 house will receive a new roof and much-needed care. We will introduce geothermal heat sourcing to the house and historic buildings, providing long-term energy savings and reducing our dependence on fossil fuels.
Light refreshments will be served, including a special rose cardamom punch in honor of Ann Bartram Carr's heritage roses.
