Okbari Middle Eastern Ensemble
Please join Okbari Middle Eastern Ensemble for an evening of classical, folk and dance music from the Arabic traditions of Egypt and Syria along with Andalusian Arabic songs, contemporary Turkish tunes and original music by ensemble members. Okbari Middle Eastern Ensemble is joined by two gifted guest musicians for this very special performance; Lauren Hastings Genova on violin and Simon Moushabeck on riq and tabla (Middle Eastern percussion). Ensemble percussionist Eric LaPerna will be performing on the nay (Middle Eastern reed flute). Together, Okbari Middle Eastern Ensemble and guests will perform as the rarely-seen Arabic takht ensemble, considered to be the most authentically traditional format of musical presentation in the Arabic classical tradition. Portland dance fixture Josie Conte will be joining the ensemble for an exciting set of traditional Middle Eastern dance. We hope you can join us for this unique and exciting performance.
