Perception: Portrait of Tony Barrand
"Perception: A Portrait of Tony Barrand" is a cabaret opera composed by Lawrence Siegel in honor of the renowned performer and scholar of English and Anglo-American song and dance traditions, Tony Barrand. The words are Tony's own, adapted from an interview of Tony by the composer. The "Portrait" will have two performances in Brattleboro, VT, at All Soul's Unitarian Church at 7 and 8:30 P.M. on Saturday May 23, 2015. The performance brings together well-known performers from the traditional music community- Peter Amidon, Keith Murphy, Becky Tracy, Andy Davis, Fred Breunig and Matt Wojcik, with a special appearance by John Roberts. Tony is played by John Moore, a baritone featured on major opera stages around the world. "Perception" also features dance from various traditions that Barrand has taught to the community. The evening celebrates Tony Barrand, bringing together his family, friends, and the wide community to whom he is important. The Marlboro Morris Ale, which Barrand was central in establishing, is a major sponsor of the production, and will be celebrating its 40th anniversary that weekend. The production is also supported in part by the Outreach Fund of the Country Dance and Song Society.
