Celebrating the Legacy of Pt. Chitresh Das: Kathak Solos by Sneha Patkar & Mayuka Sarukkai
TRADITIONAL KATHAK SOLOS
Traditional Kathak Solos by Chhandam Youth Dance Company Senior Members, Sneha Patkar and Mayuka Sarukkai The Parampara series and the traditional Kathak Solo represents the legacy created by Pt. Chitresh Das with the vision of passing on the culturally rich heritage of India for generations to come. The Traditional Kathak solo is one of the most challenging performances of the art form.The evening's performance will consist of all the elements essential to the North Indian Classical Dance form of Kathak, including powerful footwork and turns, rhythmic improvisation, subtle movements with beauty and grace, and abhinaya (storytelling). This exciting milestone will offer a glimpse into the training Sneha and Mayuka have received from Pandit Chitresh Das and his senior disciples at the Chhandam School of Kathak.
Sneha Patkar: Sneha started learning at the Chhandam School of Kathak in 2002 at the age of five. In 2008, she joined the Chhandam Youth Dance Company, and began training directly under Pandit Das and his senior disciples. Since then, she has had the honor of performing at prestigious events including the San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival, the Chitresh Das Dance Company's production Darbar at the SF Asian Arts Museum, and Deck the Halls at Louise M. Davis Symphony Hall.
Mayuka Sarukkai: Mayuka Sarukkai began studying Kathak at the Chhandam School of Kathak in 2007 at the age of 9. In 2009 she joined the Chhandam Youth Dance Company, and was blessed with the opportunity to train directly under Pandit Chitresh Das and his senior disciples. Mayuka has performed at the San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival, the Palace of Fine Arts, the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, and the Davies Symphony Hall alongside the San Francisco Symphony, among other performances.
