Event

Best of Dance Chicago
This event is open to the general public. The program includes the best acts from Dance Chicago 2010, the nation's largest dance festival.  See Chicago's hottest new works in tap, jazz, contemporary, ballroom, salsa, urban movement, breakdancing, Irish, Mexican Folkloric and ballet all seamlessly woven together in an electrifying feast for the senses and the spirit. "And it must be said that John Schmitz, Dance Chicago's founder-producer curator, has quite a gift for lining up works that might be radically different on the surface, yet complement each other when juxtaposed on the same program."  Hedy Weiss, Chicago Sun-Times. See 10 of Chicago's finest new companies and choreographers.
Morris Binkley, a devoted fan of Dance Chicago, was an experimental physicist at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Batavia, Illinois from 1973 until his death 12/27/09. In 1983, he joined the Collider Detector Facility (CDF) Department to develop tracking systems, and continued an active member of the experiment even after his retirement. Until his illness, he had also been part of the Large Hadron Collider experiment at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland. Throughout the years, he mentored innumerable young physicists -- interns, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows  and inspired them with his enthusiasm for elementary particle research. In addition to his work on physics experiments, he spent over 20 years, many as chair, as a volunteer on the Auditorium Committee at Fermilab, which is responsible for the Arts Series and the Lecture Series of presentations for the general public given monthly at the lab. A devoted music, theater and dance supporter, Morris encouraged emerging musicians and performers, and was a regular attendee at student theater productions at Loyola University and Northwestern University as well as more traditional venues. He loved American folk music and was proud of his friendship with activist/environmentalist folksinger Pete Seeger.
