How to Navigate Working with Difficult Volunteers
What do you need to know before having a difficult conversation with a volunteer? What do you do when the difficult conversations you've had do not result in the change you need to see? How do you handle disciplining or even firing a volunteer? This Lunch and Learn will focus on how to prepare for and have difficult conversations and how to manage challenging volunteers and situations. You will learn how to set you and your volunteers up for success when confrontation is necessary and how to tactfully tell a volunteer goodbye. In addition to hearing from our panelists, this Lunch and Learn will have some time to brainstorm on how to best handle challenging situations and volunteers. Our panelists for this Lunch and Learn will include an experienced Volunteer Manager and HR Professional, Amber Buschmann.
Amber Buschmann recently became the Senior Advisor & Internship Specialist at the Career and Employment Center at Madison College. Prior to that she spent nearly 18 years working for United Way of Dane County. All of her positions at UWDC involved working with volunteers. From training and supervising volunteer Community Resource Specialists in United Way's First Call for Help (now United Way 2-1-1) to supporting and staffing the Personnel Committee as Human Resources Director, she has been involved in all phases of volunteer development.
