Facing Impossible Odds: Stories of Strength, Bravery, and Survival
With Playback, members of the audience tell stories about their lives, which the players re-enact on the spot. Sometimes funny, sometimes moving, Playback always brings a community together. Share your own story, or just listen.
We are partnering with the Center for Hope and Safety this month to bring awareness to the important work being done on behalf of victims and survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and human trafficking. Their programs and services inform survivors of their options and support them in their choices. A cornerstone of their philosophy is respect for the rights of all survivors, including the freedom to decide whether to report to the police the crimes committed against them. The Center works with survivors of any race, color, creed, religious belief, sexual orientation, or gender identity. Come prepared to tell your own story, or be present in support of others.
Playback is a unique form of non-scripted theatre based on stories told by audience members. Real stories are shared and then enacted on the spot by a team of actors, dancers, and musicians. Performers follow no narrative agenda, but bring their dramatic skills and their humanity to embody, on the stage, the concerns and experiences of audience members; striving for compassion, humor, deep listening, perspective, and connection to the human spirit.
