Olympia Poetry Grand Slam feat. Tara Hardy
Olympia People's Mic, Olympia's only weekly poetry show is holding the biggest baddest production we've ever organized... The 1st [EVER] Olympia Poetry Grand Slam!!!

Seven Olympia poets have earned a spot in this celebration of performance and literature, where they will flex their pens, set fire to the microphone, and stretch their truth-telling to the limit, competing for a place on the 1st ever Olympia team at the National Poetry Slam this August.

Special feature from Seattle Slam Legend, Tara Hardy (www.tarahardy.net)

A poetry slam is a competitive poetry event where poets perform their own original content without props, costumes, or music, and are judged by five random judges from the audience. Each poet has three minutes per round to impress the judges with their poem, judged based upon writing, performance, and originality. This is all done to build a community of artists who bring their best to the stage and an audience who gets fired up about the poetry.

The poets competing in the Olympia Poetry Grand Slam have qualified in an Olympia People's Mic slam (either placing first or second amongst poets not already qualified) to compete with/against each other. The top four poets will win slots on the team representing Olympia at the National Poetry Slam this August in Oakland.

These poets have been honing their awesome all season, and are bringing their best to the finals stage. The competing poets will be:

Brian McCracken
Rachel Greene
Daniel Georgeson
Kina Wolfenstein
Scarlett Pedersen
Lennee Reid
Kelly "Shea" Miller

"Sacrificial" poets: Roma Raye & Rebecca Shay

Hosted by Rain City Slam co-founder, and friend of Olympia People's Mic, Ela Barton!

Doors Open - 6:30.
Show Starts - 7:30.

*Please arrive early to ensure a good seat. Latecomers will have to wait until a break between poems to enter the theater.*

The ticket money from this event will serve as a fundraiser for getting those poets to Oakland (travel, hotels, etc.) There will be chapbooks, patches, and more merchandise for sale at the event as well!

The evening kicks off with the two rounds of poetry; each poet will perform two poems, with the order changing each round. After a short intermission, Tara Hardy will perform a 30 minute set of her poetry, followed by another round of poems from each of the competing poets. At the end of the night, we'll find out who makes up the team representing Olympia at Nationals!
