Unpacking the Artist's Grocery Bag - presented by LORE
"I am fascinated by materials and the processes of making art. Each material has a unique identity – a smell, a feel, and a touch – and response to motive and action. I work in relationship with materials by allowing them to inform me on how to use them in representing my lived experience. I do this work because it makes me profoundly happy." -

-Margaret Manning Krug

Farms and ranches have historically been harvested not just for food but for all manner of tools and materials, most notably for use in art production.  Lore is pleased to feature an open studio session with Margaret Manning Krug - painter, Parsons professor, former Whitney senior lecturer on American Art, and author of the acclaimed art studio resource, An Artist's Handbook: Materials and Techniques. During the first half of the evening, Margaret will walk us through the painters' uses for ox galls, rabbit skins, cattle hides, beeswax, eggs, milk, nut oils, herbs and all manner of earth pigments. During the second half of the evening you will learn how to make casein (milk paint) the new "eco paint" that is centuries old. Everyone will go home with paint.
