Sonic Grace with Blue Lotus Trio & Naad Ensemble
ONLINE SALES HAVE ENDED, BUT TICKETS STILL AVAILABLE AT THE DOOR. OPEN AT 7PM. SHOW AT 7:30PM.
A Sublime double-bill bringing together an eclectic mix of musicians, poets and singers from the ends of Canada.
Tickets are $20, but nobody will be turned away for lack of funds.
Opening the evening, the three members of the Nova Scotia-based world music ensemble, Blue Lotus Trio, are inspired by their passion for Indian music, Sufi poetry, Turkish rhythms, and the direct language of the love song, in its many manifestations.
At times romantic, playful and meditative, their sound is intimate, acoustic and international - blending the warmth and beauty of songs in English, Sanskrit, Farsi and Turkish with the dynamic intensity of Indian and Middle Eastern drumming, and balanced over a smooth, focused layer of drone.
Blue Lotus is: SAHARA NASR (voice, sarangi, guitar, frame drum), KEN SHORLEY (tabla, darabuka, riq, frame drums, saz, voice), and HEIDI KALYANI (shruti box, tamboura, frame drum).
Vancouver-based Naad ensemble is a collective of musicians, poets and storytellers that play improvised and eclectic world music on unique instruments, from ambient to groovy styles. Naad is led by interdisciplinary artists Zamir Dhanji, David Yates and Greg Valou, and joined by various talented world music artists.
