Jerry and Ed
What is so engrossing about the life-long friendship of two grumpy old men? In the hands of Valley comedian and playwright Steve Henderson, the tale of Jerry Atric and his friend Ed Hascomb, uneasy residents of the Garden Acres Retirement Community, answers that question with a hilarious take on life in the not-so-fast zone for two guys not ready to throw in the towel.

A major hit at the Majestic Theater in West Springfield when it premiered in 2008, Jerry and Ed will be revived by Silverthorne Theater Company March 27-29 at the Sloan Theater at Greenfield Community College.  Dick Volker, the show's original 'Ed' will direct Steve Henderson, reprising his 'Jerry', and J.T. Waite as 'Ed'.

Performances of Jerry and Ed are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, March 27 and 28, at 8:00 pm, with matinee performances at 2 pm on Saturday, March 28, and Sunday, March 29. Tickets may be ordered online at www.silverthornetheater.org or by calling 413-768-7514. For further information, go to silverthornetheater@gmail.com

Henderson's sharp wit and firm grasp on the ridiculous bring out all the comic elements in what could be a mundane situation. "Ed and I have been best friends since we were kids. Man, we got into a lot of trouble over the years. Ever have a friend that always managed to get you into to trouble? Yeah, well, so did Ed. I'd get us in it, and we'd both figure a way out of it." 'Thick and thin' involves not just teenaged high jinks on a roller coaster, but the shared horrors of being grunts under fire. Jerry stays loyal despite his friend's increasing confusion.

Dick Volker is a veteran Connecticut Valley director with a host of professional productions under his belt. Some of Dick's more prominent stage roles are: Morrie in Tuesdays With Morrie, Al Lewis in The Sunshine Boys, Shannon in Night of the Iguana, and Dr. Dysart in Equus.  He appeared in New Century Theater's production of Inspecting Carol at City Stage in Springfield, and you may have heard or seen Dick in commercials or performing at The Majestic Theater in West Springfield.

Steve Henderson (playwright and actor) brings decades of award winning writing and performing experience to the upcoming production of Jerry and Ed.Steve's other writing includes: Morse Code (CTA award for outstanding achievement in playwriting in 2002, Robert Lehan One Act Play award in 2004); Spontaneous Combustion (CTA award for outstanding achievement in playwriting 1998); Jerry Atric, a one-man show performed at the Majestic in 2006, Agawam 2005, Kennett Square, PA in 2006.

J.T. Waite made his Broadway debut understudying the role of the fly-and-spider-eating madman, Renfield in Dracula. Three years later he was playing Mozart in the first Broadway run of Peter Shaffer's masterpiece, Amadeus; taking over the role from Mark Hamill of Star Wars fame. Off Broadway John Thomas has been in and out of The Fantastics over the last 38 years, playing first The Mute, then Mortimer, The Man Who Dies and finally Henry, The Old Actor. He has performed in New York, London and France with the Independent Shakespeare Company and with regional theaters across the country including: The Old Globe in San Diego, The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, The Cleveland Playhouse, Syracuse Stage, The Wilma in Philadelphia, Actors Theatre of Louisville, The Shakespeare Theatre in Washington, DC, Virginia Stage Company in Norfolk, The Clarence Brown Company in Knoxville, The Asolo State Theatre in Sarasota and The Irish Repertory Theatre in New York City. TV appearances include Ed, Royal Pains and the HBO movie Muhammad Ali's Greatest Fight
