Requiem at The Bridge: In Honor & Protection of GLBT Youth
Queer youth are killing themselves and WE are the bridge to safety from the shame and self-loathing in which they're drowning.
On November 22, the safe side of the bridge is at Richard Hugo House where Chad Goller-Sojourner, Okanomode' SoulChilde and Greg Bee will shake the rafters with poetry.
These three will perform poetry about their experiences coming out and living as gay men (the good, the bad, and the silly). The show will be filmed and the film made available to educators who want to talk to students about GLBT issues. While this conversation must happen among and between the bullies and the bullied, this epidemic of suicides is not a gay issue or a male issue or an anything-other-than-all-of-us issue. We're starting here because it's what we know.
Money collected at the show will go to production of the show and the video and every dollar beyond that will be donated to the Safe Schools Coalition - an international public/private partnership in support of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender youth.
Come out to the show because, this important mission aside, Chad, SoulChilde and Greg are going to tear the roof off of the Richard Hugo House.
