Kinbaku Fundamentals: Gote Shibari
The gote shibari/takatekote shibari is perhaps the most iconic tie of Japanese-style rope bondage. It's complex, beautiful, and highly versatile.
In this three hour workshop, we'll take a detailed look at the two-rope gote shibari/ takatekote shibari, focusing on precise rope positioning, tension, & several types of frictions. We'll examine anatomy & safety issues associated with this tie, and learn tips & tricks for tying fluidly & with connection.
Prerequisite: This course assumes prior, basic familiarity with tying the two-rope gote shibari/takatekote shibariwhatever lineage or style you're used to. It is appropriate for all genders, sexual orientations, and body types.
To ensure personal attention to each participant, class size will be limited to 16 people. Don't have a partner? We'll do our best to pair up solo students. Due to the small class size, early registration is strongly recommended.
Clothing & Equipment: Please bring 3-4 25'-30' pieces of bondage rope, preferably 5-6mm in diameter, and a blanket or yoga mat to sit & tie on. You should wear clothing comfortable to tie in.
About the Instructor: Jonathan aka SeattleShibari is a Seattle-based rope artist who performs on-stage theatrical bondage acts, ties for photo shoots, and engages in shibari shenanigans with his partner O. Together, they run the website SeattleShibari.com, and are committed to bringing the joy, art, and intimacy of Japanese-style rope bondage to the community.
