Outdoor Mushroom Cultivation Workshop: Integrating Mushrooms into Your Backyard Ecosystem
Mycopolitan Mushroom's Brian Versek will lead a two hour workshop that will provide participants with all the tools they'll need to turn their own outdoor space-- be that a backyard, a garden, a vacant lot or a flowerpot-- into a viable habitat for native edible mushrooms. You'll get insight into the many advantages of proactively incorporating these fungi in your soil, learn propagation methods, and gain hands-on experience in outdoor inoculation at the onsite Farm and Community Resource Center.
All participants will take ready-to-propagate spawn kits home with them at no additional cost so you can go home and propagate mushrooms in your own backyard!

PRESENTER BIO: BRIAN VERSEK
Brian is a cofounder of Mycopolitan Mushroom Company, Philadephia's first mushroom farm. Mycopolitan grow gourmet mushroom varieties using sustainable methods and deliver our produce fresh to local restaurants, retail establishments, and CSA's. Teaching, researching new varieties and using fungi in permaculture are a few of Mycopolitan's other passions.
Brian's life was infiltrated by fungi a few years ago, and he's made it his ongoing passion to learn all he can about cultivation, foraging, and microbiological life while holding down a day job, possibly at the expense of a social life. He looks with excitement toward the next phase of his existence, beginning with the launch of Mycopolitan and continuing on to share the boundless culinary, nutritional, medicinal, remediative, and spiritual benefits that mushrooms provide to a larger population. Brian studied psychology at Temple, but now seeks to integrate his love of nature and the outdoors with mycology, ecology, and farming toward a true path of understanding.
