"A 50-Year Perspective on Gender Equality: How Far Have We Come? Where Do We Need to Go Next?" Listen to Professor Stephanie Coontz discuss gender equality while enjoying a seared steelhead brunch hosted by the League of Women Voters of Kitsap.
Stephanie Coontz lectures all over the United States and the world on issues ranging from the gender gap to equal rights to same sex relationships. She teaches history and family studies at The Evergreen State College in Olympia and serves as co-chair and director of public education at the Council on Contemporary Families. Her work has been featured in many newspapers such as The New York Times, as well as scholarly journals such as the Journal of Marriage and Family, and she is frequently interviewed on national television and radio.
Her books include "A Strange Stirring: The Feminine Mystique and American Women at the Dawn of the 1960s," "Marriage, a History," "The Way We Never Were" and "The Way We Really Are."
Ann Smith, president of the League of Women Voters of Kitsap, said she is pleased to be able to bring Stephanie to Kitsap County. "She offers provocative insights into a world that has evolved since the days when employers were legally entitled to fire a woman who got married, became pregnant or put on weight. She will discuss how far we have come but also how much we still have to do. I encourage all who are interested in the past and future of women's rights to attend this League of Women Voters event."
