What Is Enlightenment? Magazine Salon - The Mystery of Evolution, Pt I
Come join us for the next What Is Enlightenment? Magazine Salon in Berkeley!
Like the magazine itself, What Is Enlightenment? Salons are forums for exploring the leading edge and attempting to define the contours of a new ethical, philosophical, and spiritual culture for the twenty-first century -not as some third-person future ideal, but as ourselves, now. It's thrilling, and quite profound, because we open our eyes together and make sense of human existence, and that is only a good thing. It's what we hunger for.
And for those of us interested in the evolution of the consciousness and culture, it is our job description.
After a successful series of WIE Salons in 2006, we'd like to kick things off in 2007 with a different and more exciting approach. We found that the topics raised in each edition of WIE are so deep and relevant that they need more than just one discussion to be really penetrated! Starting in March, we will offer our first in a series of three monthly Salons focused on the topic, "The Mystery of Evolution," from the current issue of the magazine.
Over the course of the series, we'll use articles from the magazine and audio interviews from WIE Unbound to explore the following themes:
* Some say evolution is all science; some say it's divine providence; most of us fall in between. Twelve schools of thought, by our count. Come explore what is a new synthesis of an age-old debate...
* ...and find out, with the rest of us, the embedded ideas about evolution that are at the foundation of our culture (and ourselves).
* And the Big Question: Is there an intelligence and creative principle guiding the evolution of the universe (and our lives)? Or not?
You get the idea. We are going to explore how deep-seated ideas of how we got here and where we are going shape our lives.
Please keep in mind that there is "no experience necessary" and while these discussions are part of a series, each stands on its own. You don't have to commit to all of them in order to attend one! Come as you are...We hope you'll join us!
In preparation for the first Salon, please read "The Real Evolution Debate" and contemplate the various theories it lays out in relationship to the questions posed above.
