Sex Trafficking: Changing a Culture of Demand | A Town Hall Discussion
How can we prevent sex trafficking?
In the last two years, Seattle and King County have taken ground-breaking steps to address the complex issues relating to sex trafficking of children and youth. From changing the way victims have been treated as criminal to focusing on providing life-saving services, we have become a national leader in this area. As encouraging as these changes are, there was a component of our response that was missing: The culture of buying sex was largely unaddressed. We know that with no demand, there would be no victims.
Our community is leading the nation in an innovative approach to address the demand for sex trafficking which involves all aspects of our community: the criminal justice system, the non-profit, the private sector and community advocates. Speakers include King County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Satterberg, Seattle City Attorney Pete Holmes, and President of End Human Trafficking Now, David Arkless.
