At the cave preserve, a caver will provide a general introduction about Avery Ranch Cave and Texas caving. The tour will be presented from the cavers' point of view.
You will be able to see it as a caver would see the cave with a lower level of light. Even if you have been in this cave before, this will be a completely different experience.
One of the cave formation characters, Old Man Wisdom, will even tell you about his friends. We will light up a carbide light and let it illuminate your surroundings, just as a caver would see it for the first time. Following several demonstrations, we will light up the entire room for your enjoyment.
At the end of the tour, you then may either exit the cave or stay and experience what cavers enjoy while underground. The lights will be lowered and we will sit down and talk about caves and cavers.
These tours will be by reservation only and will be limited to approximately twenty visitors per tour.
