Odes and Farewell (A Summer Sounds Event)
The Staunton Music Festival has always prided itself on crafting programs of diversity and range. This concert stretches from Monteverdi, a pioneer in vocal music and opera in seventeeth-century Italy, to Ligeti's Two Studies for Organ from the late 1960s. Along the way are works from Handel, Britten, and the Abschied ("Farewell") from Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde as arranged by Schoenberg.
Performers include David Schrader (organ); Minna Pensola and Martin Davids (Baroque violin); Gesa Kordes (Baroque viola); James Wilson (Baroque cello); Tony Manzo (Baroque bass); Kevin McMillan (baritone); Diane Pascal and Antti Tikkanen (violin); Amadi Azikiwe (viola); Carl Donakowski (cello); Mary Boodell (flute); Roger Roe (oboe); Janice Minor (clarinet); Ian Zook (horn); Stephanie Corwin (bassoon); Gabriel Dobner (piano); and Lori Piitz (harmonium).
