"Ghost Town: The Hebron Story" w/ filmmaker Ellie Bernstein
After many trips to Israel and the West Bank, local filmmaker Ellie Bernstein wanted to tell the story of Hebron, Palestine to show the result of the over 40-year Israeli military occupation on a historically important city for Muslims, Jews and Christians. The film reveals real relationships between the Settlers, Palestinians and Israeli Army.
There is no other film that covers this amount of historical and current information about Hebron. Hebron is the largest city in the occupied territories and serves as a microcosm of the problems in the West Bank. Noam Chomsky writes, "Ellie Bernstein's documentary should go a long way towards overcoming the general lack of awareness of what has been happening for years in Hebron, and leading to actions to bring this scandal to an end."
Albany filmmaker Ellie Bernstein, has produced social issue documentaries over the past fifteen years. Her films include "Closing the Open Door The Fight for Higher Education," and "Waiting for Mercy- The Case Against Mohammed Hossain and Yassin Aref, Waiting for Mercy" (2009).
Bernstein traveled the world to chronicle the international Women in Black peace movement. Bernstein went to Israel, Serbia, Colombia, Spain, Seattle and Minnesota to talk to members of the Women in Black for her documentary, "We Are Still Standing: Stories of Women in Black" (2011).
