Mother Teresa & the Sinners
Don't let the religiosity of the name fool youMother Teresa & The Sinners are purveyors of a powerful, no-holds-barred roots-rock revival. Over the past 18 months, they've made a name for themselves, pouring sweat and blood into a powerhouse, danceable live show that includes standards, obscure covers and original material in the vein of artists like Etta James, Shemekia Copeland, Janis Joplin, Grace Potter & The Nocturnals and Eva Cassidy. In that relatively short timeframe, they've managed to amass a resume that includes winning a 2013 MAMA Award, festival and casino appearances, opening for world-renowned Texas guitar slinger Lance Lopez and Headlining Modesto's Fat Cat Music House.
Given so much progress in such a short timeframe, it seems they were destined make that name for themselves. From day one, they put in the hours building their sound and building their brand, exuding a throwback swagger from the days when Funk, Soul and Rock'N'Roll ruled the radio that would ensure a quick rise in the local music scene. After their very first live appearance at the 2012 Taste of Turlock Festival they garnered an invitation to put together and headline a three-band bill at Modesto's renowned Fat Cat Music House. This upward momentum that carried them through their first year culminated in a their nomination to the Modesto Area Music Association Awards, a black-tie gala celebrating the area's preeminent bands and artists.
Driven by the powerful recent addition of the talented drummer Eric Carey behind the drum-kit, they have continued their hard work and dedication, garnering a second consecutive nomination to the Modesto Area Music Association Awards, and a winning a MAMA in the best Blues/Jazz category. The band is currently pursuing increased festival and casino opportunities while writing original material for their Forthcoming debut EP, with a projected release date within in the coming year.
