Slant Culture Records

featuring a live music recording with songwriters
Frederick the Younger and Joel T. Henderson

Have you ever listened to a great songwriter sing at the edge of his or her bed? Now you can. New to the Slant CultureTheatre Festival this year is a music experience unlike any other you have seen. Right before your eyes (and your ears) these two artists will perform, and record for album release, a handful of songs in the very intimate Walden AltSpace. This entire performance will be acoustic and will be delivered in a way similar to the experience of hearing them from the foot of their own beds.

Frederick the Younger believes in storytelling. Like Elliott Smith and Josh Ritter, the heart of their music is in their contemplative lyrics, raw vocals and magnetic harmonies. The core of Frederick the Younger is Jenni Cochran and Aaron Craker, who started writing music together in 2012 under the name Dr. Vitamin. They have reemerged in 2014 with Frederick the Younger, a new intimate and exposed take on their songwriting.

Joel T. Henderson combines folk, country, blues, gospel, and classic pop with equal reverence, but his music is distinguished by "deceptively simple" song craft that suggests a noble intent to update the American standard. Henderson melds timeless melodies with deeply true-to-self, yet universally relatable, lyrics. Jeffrey Lee Puckett of Louisville's Courier-Journal described Henderson's work as "the kind of observational songwriting that only sounds this easy when done at a high level."
