GILLIGAN STUMP and HOT CRIPPLE
Friday, February 19th. 8 & 10pm. Hot Cripple. Gilligan Stump. $25 for this one-night-only event!
8pm. HOT CRIPPLE. written & performed by Hogan Gorman
This show was featured in the 12th annual New York International Fringe Festival where it garnered writer & performer Hogan Gorman the 2008 FringeNYC Overall Excellence Award for Outstanding Actor!
Legally Blonde meets Michael Moore in this hilariously devastating solo show. This is the story of Hogan Gorman, an ex-model turned actress/waitress, hoping for a change in her life when she got exactly that; unfortunately it came at her at 30 miles per hour as she was hit by a car while crossing the street. Don't worry, though, it's not a sob story. It's a wild ride with crippled hand jobs, a stalker ambulance driver, short term memory loss, forgotten food stamps, a hot doctor, a crazy judge and a fashionista's guide of what to wear to the welfare office. And at the core of this story: a look at what happens to the uninsured in this country when they unexpectedly become sick or injured. Directed by Quin Gordon. 10pm. GILLIGAN STUMP
Gilligan is quite possibly one of the most handsome bald men on the planet. His songwriting is, at best, difficult to describe, so we won't. What sets Gil apart from other bands (aside from his amazing good looks) is his ability to make you think. There is a message in there, sometimes gently hidden behind some silly comedy, sometimes blatantly hitting you over the head much like an unwashed caveman swinging a club. He's opened for the original Asylum St. Spankers in Austin, Texas, for Matchbox 20 (who were annoyed that he mistakenly called them Hotwheels 40), and for the legendary Jonathan Richman, who gave Gilligan one of the greatest compliments ever when he said, "You are far too loud." Gilligan simply said, "Yes!"
Gil then moved to New York City so his creator could pursue an acting career. He performed off and on with a mute sidekick known as Tha Perfesser. Gilligan has since released several recordings, ran for President (he got 5 write in votes!) and made one of the most talked about music videos among ten of his close friends. He is heavily influenced by the likes of John Prine, Blaze Foley, Tom Waits, Bill Hicks, Frank Zappa, Les Claypool, Richard Pryor, Leon Redbone, David Lee Roth, Johnny Cash, George Carlin, Shel Silverstein, Bon Scott, Mitch Hedburg and the list goes on and on and on.
Don't miss this one-night-only chance to see what Backstage called "One of the smartest, funniest shows New York has to offer." Read more about it at www.gilliganstump.com.
