MARGRET AVERY and HOT CRIPPLE
8 pm -- HOT CRIPPLE written & performed by Hogan Gorman
This show was featured in the 12th annual New York International Fringe Festival where it garnered writer & performer Hogan Gorman the 2008 FringeNYC Overall Excellence Award for Outstanding Actor!
Legally Blonde meets Michael Moore in this hilariously devastating solo show. This is the story of Hogan Gorman, an ex-model turned actress/waitress, hoping for a change in her life when she got exactly that; unfortunately it came at her at 30 miles per hour as she was hit by a car while crossing the street. Don't worry, though, it's not a sob story. It's a wild ride with crippled hand jobs, a stalker ambulance driver, short term memory loss, forgotten food stamps, a hot doctor, a crazy judge and a fashionista's guide of what to wear to the welfare office. And at the core of this story: a look at what happens to the uninsured in this country when they unexpectedly become sick or injured. Directed by Quin Gordon. 10 pm -- Margret Avery, with Norbert Kael, piano & Agnes Nagy, cello The perfect way to get in the mood for Valentine's Weekend...
Margret will be singing tunes from her cd, "A Place That's Make Believe," as well as some new, yet-to-be-recorded numbers. Shaun Moser, of A&R Select, says that "her signature vocal personality glows from a voice that is as smooth as fine liqueur and equally as intoxicating... Avery's stunning performance... conjures a rainbow of emotional reactions : love, regret, sadness, melancholy and more.' Scott Yanow, of the Los Angeles Jazz Scene, finds her work to be "fresh and full of insightful lyrices... both emotional and laidback, direct yet subtle." Don't miss her special Seeing Place performance, with her collaborator & accompanist Norbert Kael, who will also share a few original pieces of his own. Norbert is from Hungary where he received his Master's degree in piano performance. At age 25 he received one of the highest scholarships to the prestigious Berklee college. He has moved on to NYC and now performs throughout the USA and Europe.
$10 Admission for Music with Margret. $18 for HOT CRIPPLE. $25 for BOTH!
