Wes Corbett and Jacob Jolliff land at SPACECRAFT
Jake and Wes have been playing together since 2004, and from the very first notes there was a tangible spark. They have shared the stage in many iterations, most notably in the amazing string band Joy Kills Sorrow, and are now delighted to return to their roots as a duo.
Jacob Jolliff has been playing the mandolin since he was seven years old. Growing up in a musical family, he got his start taking lessons from his dad, Bill, a well-known Oregon banjo player. In addition to playing in Joy Kills Sorrow, over the years he has had the opportunity to perform with many major artists. He has sat in with the David Grisman Quintet on numerous occasions starting when he was 15. When he was sixteen he performed on the CBS television network during the Christmas Eve Special. In 2007 he traveled to France with a group of young musicians led my Mike Marshall to perform at Festival Mandolines de Lunel. Some of the other artists Jacob has performed with include Ronnie McCoury, Chris Thile, Ricky Skaggs, Joe Craven, Bryan Bowers, Tim O'Brien, and the Irish super-group, Solas. He has also played sessions for countless recording projects and been featured on multiple national radio and television programs. In 2011 he graduated from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, and in September, 2012 he won The National Mandolin Championship in Winfield, KS.
Wesley Corbett, a banjoist of uncommon facility and grace, was raised on Bainbridge Island WA, where he began his musical career as a classical pianist. Starting at age 15 his attention turned to the banjo, where he has made a lasting impression starting at a very young age. He has toured internationally with Crooked Still, the Biscuit Burners, the Bee Eaters, and was a long time member of Joy Kills Sorrow. Wesley has shared the stage with talents such as Darol Anger, Mike Marshall, Matt Glaser, Sarah Jarosz, Bruce Molesky, and David Grier, to name a few and has played on many recordings of both his bands, and his peers. He has taught at numerous camps and workshops including the Mt. Shasta music workshop, Big Sur music camp, British Columbia Bluegrass Workshop, and done master classes in colleges across the country. Wesley was hired in 2010 as the professor of banjo at Berklee College of Music in Boston where he still teaches and lives.
