Bridges over Walls
Twenty-five years ago the Berlin Wall fell and the Cold War - at least symbolically, came to an end. Our globe is still riddled with people that are negatively impacted by the walls and boarders that confine them.
"Bridges over Walls" is a multi-disciplinary work by Vancouver-based cellist Clara Shandler. It combines the beauty of music, bonding imagery, and the harsh reality of words to take audience members on a journey to open their hearts to their global neighbours and see the world beyond their own.
Encompassing musical influences from around the world and combining a vast array of texts (speeches by Aung San Suu Kyi, comedy by George Carlin, and poetry by Rumi), there will surely be something for everyone, and almost certainly a laugh or two.
All proceeds from "Bridges over Walls" will be donated to Singing Tree - a musical education project in Cambodia and Burma. Clara Shandler will be returning to both countries in the winter of 2014/2015 to volunteer as a music teacher with Music and Arts School in Phnom Penh and Gitameit Music School in Yangon.
Join us after the show at Our Town Cafe (below the studio) for a glass of wine or a gooey cinnamon bun.
