Jazz & Poetry with Thri & Ms. Misconception
Lucky Old Souls @ Moonstone is a monthly event, showcasing some of Philadelphia's most creative musicians in a laid-back, BYOB venue that combines the intimacy of a club with a concert hall's respect for the music.

THRI (pronounced three) is a chordless trio dedicated to the spontaneous renderings of common (and not-so-common) tunes. With a heavy stress on interplay and personal expression, as well as an elusive reference to the great chordless trios of jazz, the group catapults itself toward what its members have called the "string theory" -- the belief that there are an infinite number of ways to play through any one tune. Thri is UArts faculty members MICAH JONES (bass) and MIKE PRACHER (sax), with UArts senior ANWAR MARSHALL (drums and cymbals).

DENICE FROHMAN (aka "MS. MISCONCEPTION") is a published poet, lyricist, and educator who has been writing and performing for over 6 years. Chosen by Scheme Magazine as one of their "2009 Voices of the Year," alongside The Floacist (formerly from Floetry), she is most known for combining the worlds of hip-hop and contemporary poetry. Raised by a Puerto Rican mother and Jewish father in New York City, and proudly a part of the LGBT community, Denice Frohman is an emerging voice in the poetry and spoken word movements.  A Budweiser 2009 Battle For The Crown Finalist in Philadelphia, she has shared the stage with Sonia Sanchez, performed in front of the likes of Dr. Cornel West, opened up for Universal Recording artist, The Flobots, rhymed with female hip-hop heavyweights La Bruja, Patty Dukes, Lah Tere and Misnomer(S), and performed with The New Yorker's "Best Latin Jazz band," The Bronx Horns.  Her diverse background creates a distinct voice and a unique platform for her poetry to explore major themes such as identity, heritage, language, women's rights, equality, hip-hop, and social injustices. As a former Puerto Rican professional basketball player, Denice Frohman also straddles the worlds of both sports and art, inspiring her to challenge and address traditional gender roles, as well as chronicle her experiences as a female athlete.
