Redshift Music Society presents the Ethos Collective in On the Echoing Green. A musical celebration of the Garden's - and indeed Vancouver's - place at the forefront of progressive environmental action, the event features recent works and world premieres.
MAIN CONCERT: 7:00 pm BMO Great Hall, VanDusen Visitor Centre
Canadian soprano Camille Hesketh will join Ethos in the world premiere of Graham Flett's The Duke of Green, inspired by green architecture and written for the VanDusen's award-winning Living Building. The work unfolds in a series of versions that reflect the malleable and organic qualities of the musical material, drawing attention to the ability of materials to exist in many forms and settings. For the first half of the concert Ethos will present their own Garden Music, a series of improvised pieces inspired by the VanDusen Gardens and the current Touch Wood Sculpture Exhibition.
OUTDOOR EVENT: 5:00 pm Elizabethan Hedge Maze
Stroll through the Elizabethan Hedge Maze and encounter hidden musicians performing Thomas Albert's classic A Maze (with Grace) and other works. This is a family-friendly event.
We encourage you to come early to explore the gardens! They close at 7:00, just in time for the evening concert. On the week of the show we will have a map for download that highlights the locations that have inspired Garden Music.
Graham Flett's The Duke of Green was made possible by a Canada Council for the Arts Commissioning Grant.
The musical content and location for this event were decided in consultation with Vancouver's Greenest City 2020 Action Plan.
