Music by J.S. Bach:
Partita No. 3 in A minor BWV 827 Partita No. 5 in G major BWV 829 Partita No. 6 in E minor BWV 830
Collectively published as Clavier-Ubung Vol. I in 1731, the Partitas (1-6) present traditional Baroque dances and illustrate Bach's command of tonal architecture against galant ornamentation. This harpsichord performance is the second in a series by Carsten Schmidt exploring Bach's Clavier-Ubung volumes.
Carsten Schmidt enjoys a versatile musical career and performs extensively throughout Europe, Japan, and North America. He has appeared at such venues as the Ravinia Festival, International Schubert Festival in Amsterdam, the German Mozart Festival, the Finnish Kuhmo Festival, Merkin Hall in NYC, Kennedy Center, and Kaleidoscope Festival in Moscow, and he has been heard in radio broadcasts worldwide. Since 2004 he has also conducted opera productions of Handel and Purcell, and Baroque concerto programs. He holds Artist Diplomas from the Folkwang Institute (Germany) and Indiana University, as well as a doctorate from Yale. Since 1998 he has been Professor of Music at Sarah Lawrence College in NY.
