"Doing that musical was the most difficult time of my career." So writes composer-lyricist Jerry Herman about the birth pangs of one of the biggest hits in Broadway history. We'll find out why Dolly almost said goodbye instead of helloand why performers ranging from Carol Channing to Pearl Bailey to Barbra Streisand coveted the role of Thornton Wilder's famous matchmaker. The musical is 50 years old, and like Dolly herself it shows no sign of "going away." As Herman says, "What she learns is important for all of us: There are second chances at lifeso take it!" The concert includes all the songs including "Before the Parade Passes By" and "It Only Takes a Moment."
