SEX(ED): THE MOVIE Philly Premiere

PHILAMOCA AND DANGER AFTER DARK PRESENT A BACK-TO-SCHOOL SPECIAL EVENT! PHILADELPHIA PREMIERE OF THE NEW DOCUMENTARY SEX(ED), A COMEDIC LOOK AT THE HISTORY OF CLASSROOM SEX EDUCATION FILMS, FOLLOWED BY A COLLECTION OF VINTAGE SEX ED SHORT FILMS!

As a new school year begins, we understand that your excitement over returning to classes and experiencing the joy of learning is also accompanied by the confusion surrounding your changing bodies and their unfamiliar sensations. PhilaMOCA and Danger After Dark are here to help with our back-to-school special! Join us at 8:00 pm on Saturday, September 20th for the Philadelphia premiere of SEX(ED), director/producer Brenda Goodman's new documentary on the history of the sex education film in American classrooms, to be followed by our own exclusive presentation of the best of vintage sex ed short films from the 1940s to the 80s. SEX(ED) takes an often comedic tour through the controversial use of A/V material in schools to educate the youth of America about sexual matters, while also revealing that these films were typically reluctant to truly discuss *sex* at all, with most of the work dealing with the plumbing of human reproductive systems in the most clinical way possible, or presenting only the hazards associated with sexuality as fodder for scare fare that warned kids about molestation, unwanted pregnancy, and sexually transmitted diseases. Through a wealth of rare clips from the films themselves, and interviews with a variety of subjects who reflect back on their own amused and/or traumatic experiences with the sex ed films of their adolescence, SEX(ED) offers a frequently hilarious survey of how the taboo topic of sex was covered by classroom movies that damaged...um, we mean, "educated" generations of American school kids.
