The Southern Colorado Film Festival, the San Luis Valley's own venue for independent film production, will once again be showcasing creative works from around the world from Thursday, September 11th, to Sunday, September 14th, of 2014, in Carson Auditorium of Adams State University.  With this year's theme of "One Valley, Many Voices", the Southern Colorado Film Festival seeks to bring the filmmaker's power of self-expression to a new audience, giving independent producers the chance to tell their own unique story and touch the hearts of people they'd never otherwise be able to reach.  By screening independent film production in the San Luis Valley, the festival seeks to connect residents here with the world as a whole, giving the chance for local matters to be shown over the silver screen and have subjects from all over the globe brought down to our unique area.  The Southern Colorado Film Festival will display a very wide variety of independent film production, ranging from the locally produced to the internationally submitted, from documentaries to narrative works, from the dramatic to the comedic, and everything in between.  Everyone is welcome to come and take in the expression of all the filmmakers showcasing at this year's festival.

The 2014 Southern Colorado Film Festival will kick off at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 11th with American Bear, a work from one of the most prominent filmmakers to come out of the San Luis Valley, Sarah Sellman, and her filming and traveling partner, Greg Grano.  In this film, Sarah and Greg set out to critically explore American culture, compassion, and fear by relying on the kindness of strangers for a home each night. Spending every night of the 60-day trip in a new town, the filmmakers use this documentary as an opportunity to chronicle people's stories and voices and investigate the various factors affecting why they may or may not be willing to open their homes.

The festival will continue showcasing blocks of independent films at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. every day until September 14th.  Each of these blocks will contain several films covering the themes listed below.  The festival as a whole will follow this schedule:

Thursday, Sept. 11th, 7:00 p.m.- Opening Feature: American Bear and Reception

Friday, Sept. 12th, 2:00 p.m.- Decay and Rebirth

Friday, Sept. 12th, 7:00 p.m.- Finding Home

Saturday, Sept. 13th, 2:00 p.m.-Student Showcase

Saturday, Sept. 13th, 7:00 p.m.-Narrative Shorts

Sunday, Sept. 14th, 2:00 p.m.-Local Food and Culture

Sunday, Sept. 14th, 7:00 p.m.-You are What You Eat

We welcome anyone to attend the festival and take in the voices of these filmmakers.  Please feel free to contact Karl at 719-587-8209 or with any questions, or for more information.
