Young Creatives Unschool Club by Musicollaborative
Musicollaborative Presents: YOUNG CREATIVES UNSCHOOL CLUB Wednesdays, 10a-2p, Sept. 10-Oct. 15 $200 for Six Weekly 4-Hour Sessions (with sibling and "Junior Mentor" discounts available) Hosted by City Park Movement and Art Facilitated by Kaya Martínez
Children ages 5-8* will enjoy opportunities to explore vocal and instrumental music, movement, visual art and crafts within a small mixed-age group. Instrumental music will feature hand drumming, keyboard, xylophones and world percussion.
Our Fall Session I Theme, "May the Circle be Unbroken," will focus on creative literal and metaphorical applications of circles and cycles. In addition to group activities, there will be time for self selection from among a variety of hands-on centers. Weather permitting, we'll enjoy lunches and nature exploration at nearby City Park. Registration includes all supplies and materials but participants are asked to provide their own lunches and a water bottles.
*Ages 4.5 and up with prior Musicollaborative camp experience may enroll and a limited number spots for children ages 9-12 to register as junior mentors at a discount are also available.
ABOUT THE FACILITATOR: Kaya Martínez is a musician, artist, and educator dedicated to nurturing creativity and building community through the arts. After more than 14 years of service in the classroom, Ms. Martínez founded Musicollaborative Exploriential Music Learning for All Ages in 2013 to make high quality culturally relevant music education accessible to New Orleans' children and families beyond the confines of traditional schooling. Ms. Martínez enjoys holding space for learners of all ages to grow in their understanding in, of and about music and the other arts through a hands-heart-head facilitation style that incorporates exploration, imitation, improvisation and creation. In addition to her masters degree in music education and certification in Orff Schulwerk, Ms. Martínez draws upon a diverse background in both instrumental and vocal music, visual arts and dance to design engaging learning opportunities that dissolve boundaries, stimulate the imagination, and foster collaboration.
