Hogeye Folk Arts presents Si Kahn
Si Kahn is one of bluegrass and folk music's best-known songwriters. More than 100 U.S., Canadian and European artists have recorded his songs...not that he's incapable of performing them himself, which he does to eager audiences worldwide and on more than a dozen CD's. You might know his work from classics such as "Aragon Mill" (Dry Branch Fire Squad, Red Clay Ramblers, Hazel Dickens, Planxty), "Mississippi Summer" (June Tabor, Oyster Band), "Gone Gonna Rise Again" (John McCutcheon), "If I Live" (Molly O'Brien), and on and on.
Si is executive director of Grassroots Leadership, which is approaching its 26th anniversary. In November 2005, Berrett-Koehler published The Fox in the Henhouse, How Privatization Threatens Democracy, Si's collaborative effort with Elizabeth Minnich. And in 2007, Si released his 15th CD (Thanksgiving) on Strictly Country Records. A recording artist and performer for 25 years, Si is a regular at some of folk and bluegrass' most-respected venues, including MerleFest, Old Town School, Old Songs, Philadelphia, Vancouver, and Sidmouth & Beverly in England.
Si has toured with the likes of Pete Seeger, John McCutcheon, Andy Irvine, Ronnie Gilbert, Roy Bailey, Cathy Fink, and has shared concert stages with Utah Phillips, Dick Gaughan, and...enough namedropping already!
Even if you don't have first-hand knowledge of Si's body of work, you'll surely not forget him after seeing him even this once. Meet the man behind the name behind the music on Nov. 14 at Lake Street Church. $15.
