Hogeye Folk Arts PRESENTS Mustard's Retreat
Mustard's Retreat is not what you think: It's not a manufacturer's recall of a favorite condiment, nor a field general pulling back his battle-weary troops. Happily, it's Michael Hough and David Tamulevich engaged in joyful music, as they have been since 1974.
Did we say 1974? Are these guys still able to stand erect? Yes. They stand, they sit, they hold their own instruments and chew their own gum...and they write memorable love songs and ballads and whimsical parodies...ah, yes, those whimsical parodies! But this only testifies to their longevity; it doesn't explain it. Come see and hear them. That will explain it.
Everything Mustard's Retreat does on stage is aimed at pleasing, moving, and engaging their audience. Each of their shows feels like it's designed for the people who have come to see them that day. "As much as we aim to entertain," says David, "we also look to educate and enlighten and open some doors...and to create a moment of community where everybody is sharing the same experience." And for the rest of us, there are the songs about wily rabbits, stupid frogs, hard-travelin' cadavers and marauding techno-nerds. Whew! For a second, there, I thought they might actually force us to learn something.
