SOLE & DJ PAIN 1
'Death Drive' is a collision of two very distinct worlds; the scorched earth of indie rap legend, Sole, and the concrete jungles of certified platinum producer, DJ Pain1. 'Death Drive' combines modern pop/rap aesthetics with the political edge reminiscent of hip-hop classics such as "Fear Of A Black Planet". Sole & DJ Pain1 utilize the golden era hip-hop approach of a rapper and DJ without employing gimmicks or rap cliches typical with more formulaic two-turntables-and-a-mic unions. Cross-pollination between mainstream music and the underground has been happening for years, but anything that bubbles up is always devoid of substance. Death Drive is a political rap album executed in a way that eschews the rapper persona of martyr/prophet and speaks from the riot line. In a period of human history where critical music is absent from the airwaves, this is true resistance music.

Sole: In 1998 he founded Anticon Records, the first collectively owned indie Hip-Hop label in the United States. Since then, Sole has played over a thousand shows throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe, the Middle East and Japan. In 2009, Sole pulled his masters from anticon and has re-invented himself as a new kind of artist, business, and political entity. His music has been recently featured in major media outlets such as Rolling Stone, 2DopeBoyz, Pitchfork, MTV, Impose, Huffington Post, Spin, Alarm Press, All Hip-hop, Alternet and many more. Sole has released ten full length studio albums and over a dozen mixtapes. In 2009, together with award winning visual artist, Ravi Zupa, he published The Pyre, an illustrated epic poem exploring empire, radical philosophy, anti-capitalism, and collapse. Throughout his career sole has been known as one to push the limits in terms of genre and content and is widely heralded as a pioneer of avant garde & experimental rap music. In 2013, Sole launched "The Solecast", a podcast featuring long form interviews with academics, artists and activists. Sole's activism reaches beyond the studio and stage into his everyday life where he is deeply involved material and logistical support to many projects that engage directly in the class struggle.

"Sole is an Indie hip hop legend." - The Huffington Post
"Sole is a true revolutionary." - Pitchfork
"Cult indie-rap icon" - Spin
"Sole is controversial and experimental...the Crass of the hip-hop world" - Diffuser.fm

DJ Pain 1: Known for his 2008 break-out beat on "Don't Do It" for Young Jeezy's platinum-selling album "The Recession", producer DJ Pain 1 stays busy. He tours as a DJ, produces full albums, as well as creating original and free content for the producer community - this Hip-Hop musician takes no breaks. Pain 1 spent the late 90's cultivating his hip-hop sensibilities through graffiti, DJing and beatmaking. He juggled a youth service/teaching career with creating music, often times marrying the two worlds-- he co-founded the first hip-hop performing arts program to be hosted in an institute of higher education in his city. Once Pain 1 decided to focus on his production career, his resume quickly grew to include both legendary hip-hop acts (Public Enemy, Kool G Rap, MC Lyte) as well as contemporary hit-makers (Juicy J, 2 Chainz, 50 Cent). He has also garnered attention for his multiple Youtube video series on both production technique and music business know-how.

-"[T]he next truth in sonic production." - Chuck D of Public Enemy
-"DJ Pain 1 has done a lot for Madison's hip-hop rep and a lot for others period, either as a beatsmith for Young Jeezy and Kool G Rap or as an educator working in the community." - The AV Club
-"DJ Pain 1 provides the cure for the common beat." - 77Square Magazine
